Aranjuez is a municipality in Madrid, which is crossed by the rivers Tajo and Jarama. It is one of the Royal Sites of the Spanish monarchy since Philip II named it in 1560. It has the title of village since 1899. That is why it is known as Royal sitesa and Village of Aranjuez.
It is famous for its Royal Palace and its Gardens, its orchards of strawberries and asparagus, for having served as an inspiration to the musician Joaquín Rodrigo for his Concierto de Aranjuez.
Aranjuez was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001.
